Madeleine Thien was born in Vancouver, the youngest daughter of Malaysian-Chinese immigrants to Canada. She is the author of four books. The story collection Simple Recipes (2001), and three novels, Certainty (2006); Dogs at the Perimeter (2011), and Do Not Say We Have Nothing (2016). Her books and stories are published in Canada, the U.S., the U.K. and Australia, and have been translated into 25 languages. In October, 2017, Thien’s short story Alice Munro Country was published in the Globe and Mail as part of their series of stories by celebrated Canadian authors marking Canada 150.
