The Captive Moment: Ekphrastic writing inspired by the paintings of Alex Colville
It is not surprising that the paintings of Alex Colville appear so often on the covers of books. His works capture single moments in implied narratives – a family picnic interrupted by the threat of storm; a cyclist distracted – perhaps dangerously – by a flying crow; a lone swimmer possibly out of her depth; a naked woman, pistol in hand, hesitating at the top of a staircase. In this workshop we will engage with twelve Colville paintings, inviting them into our writing to influence and inspire.
