Judges Note (August 29, 2013)
"A committee of three worked independently to arrive at a temporary list of ten finalists in each of the Youth and Adult categories. We then met at the end of August in order to pare down our list to five finalists and ultimately the ranking from one to five.
"It needs to be stated that the quality of writing in both categories is outstanding and we wish to congratulate all the writers for their support of, enthusiasm for and dedication to the art of short story writing."
