Statement from Alice Munro Festival of the Short Story

Dear friends: Some of you may have already seen the recently released essay by Alice Munro’s daughter Andrea Robin Skinner. In that essay, Ms. Skinner shares that she was sexually abused by her stepfather.

 

In light of this, the Alice Munro Festival of the Short Story wishes to express our unequivocal support for Ms. Skinner.

 

We are shocked and saddened by what has come to light about the private family life of Alice Munro. The Festival needs to consider the impact this has on its future programming.

 

As Ms. Skinner continues her deeply personal and challenging journey of healing, this is her story to tell. As such, the Festival will have no further comment.
