with Ami McKay
Jazz musicians use specific chord progressions as the gateway to improvisation. They use pacing, rhythm and cadence to propel melody, and to create pathways to new, compelling voices. How does a writer apply these same techniques to their practice? How do you give energy and flow to narrative, dialogue and plot? How do you break out of a writing rut and into a fresh perspective? In this workshop, we’ll use a series of writing exercises inspired by the art of improvisation to breathe new life into the written word.
