The past, like all reality, is messy—and there is so much of it! Through hands-on exploration with Merilyn Simonds, author of memoirs, historical fiction, and nonfiction set in the past, you'll learn techniques for selecting the truly golden details, compressing time and space, and writing characters that breathe with passion on the page. You’ll confront common research dilemmas—how much is too much? Is Where can you find those golden details? Google reliable?— and take away tricks for "getting into" historical characters and ferreting out the insidious, hideous beast of anachronism.

This workshop will be useful for playwrights and anyone writing fiction, non-fiction, and memoir.
